Despair and Hopelessness

Abstract It has recently been argued that hope is polysemous in it sometimes refers to hoping and other times being hopeful. That these two distinct senses reflected the observation a person can for an outcome without hopeful will occur. Below, I offer new argument this distinction. My strategy show accepting distinction yields rich account of ways which be lost, map onto hope: A lose either by ceasing (hopelessness) or obtain (despair). Thinking about negative attitudes ways, contend, explanatorily fruitfully reveals how they differ phenomenology, behavioral differences, escape them.
